چکیده

A 62-year-old man was admitted with a hypertensive emergency, anisocoria and decreased level of consciousness. The CT scan showed a hemorrhage in the brainstem and an intraocular hemorrhage (Figure), consistent with Terson’s syndrome, a condition that is classically characterized as a vitreous hemorrhage secondary to a subarachnoid hemorrhage. However, it can also be considered as a traumatic hemorrhage and, more rarely, as an intraparenchymal hemorrhage. The etiology has been attributed to a rapid increase in intracranial pressure, resulting in reduced retinal venous drainage and leading to vitreous bleeding. Terson’s syndrome is associated a high rate of morbidity and mortality not only in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage1,2,3,4,5.

Terson's Syndrome - A Report of Two Cases.

INTRODUCTION Vitreous or retinal hemorrhage occurring in association with subarachnoid hemorrhage is known as Terson's syndrome. In Terson's syndrome, intracranial hemorrhages are followed by intraocular hemorrhage, classically in the subhyaloid space, but may also include subretinal, retinal, preretinal, and vitreal collections. Vitreous hemorrhage recovery is usually spontaneous in six to 12 ...

Practical Incidence and Risk Factors of Terson's Syndrome: A Retrospective Analysis in 322 Consecutive Patients with Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

OBJECTIVE Terson's syndrome, a complication of visual function, has occasionally been reported in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), however the factors responsible for Terson's syndrome in aneurysmal SAH patients have not yet been fully clarified. In this study, we report on potential risk factors for prediction and diagnosis of Terson's syndrome in the earlier stage of th...

Terson's syndrome. Report of a case with favorable outcome.

Terson's syndrome is characterized by the presence of a subarachnoid hemorrhage accompanied by retinal and vitreous hemorrhage leading to a not very favorable prognosis. We describe a case with a good outcome, probably because of a early diagnosis and medical intervention. We emphasize the routine optician's check up as very important in the evaluation of a prognosis in the cases of a suspect i...
